These New Boulders Rock!

You may have noticed some new boulders lining the parking lot! These are in place to protect the preserve from vehicles (see photo below) and to bring the volume of visitors in alignment with what the Preserve can accommodate at any given time. We’d like to thank the DPW crew for bringing in the big tools to get the job done!

Sandstone boulders now mark the boundaries of the parking lot.

This is an example of how vehicles can harm the preserve. The new boulders will prevent this from occurring.

We also began clearing the perimeter of the preserve’s open lawn area, which suffered from numerous years of inattention. Unfortunately, the machine we rented to mulch the removed brush broke down, so we will be rescheduling the rest of this cleanup for early May.

Many thanks to Dan Boritt for bringing over IndyParks’ tractor and to Board Members Jim Plant and Marc Johnson for many hard hours of brush and land clearing.

IndyParks’ tractor was used to place the boulders around the parking lot.

Thanks to everyone who helped complete this project!
