Spotlight on Laurie Schumacher

What makes Marott Woods so special is the people who go above and beyond to care for it. We had the great pleasure of visiting with Laurie Schumacher as she tended our garden at the base of the main sign.

Laurie works hard to maintain the flowers she planted beneath the sign on College Ave.

We learned that Laurie, with IndyParks’ blessing, planted the flowers to replace an unsightly overgrowth of weeds.

Laurie walks from her home in Arden to keep an eye on the native plants for us. The other day she weeded the vinca, cleaned out the old flower stalks, and found coreopsis, Shasta Daisies, lots of Black-eyed Susans, some penstemon, daylilies, coneflowers, and a little Bee Balm.

Thank you, Laurie! Your dedication has a powerful impact on the Preserve and all of its visitors.
