Mindfulness Walk II

What a beautiful day to be in the Woods!

Marissa Byers guided us on an hour-long meditative hike. The walk was broken into manageable sections of hiking, each followed by a few minutes of group discussion. We talked about what we saw, heard, smelled, and felt. We compared and contrasted different areas of the Preserve—what did the air feel like where there was more tree cover? How did the amount of light change as we walked through the woods? Where was traffic noise the loudest?

For this exercise, we each chose something to focus and reflect on for ten minutes. I sat at the edge of the water and listened to it flow past me.

Everyone who joined brought a unique perspective to the group’s focus. Some of us looked up at the trees and pointed out changes in the canopy while others directed our attention down to the tiniest of creatures.  It was lovely to step outside of habit and experience the Woods in new ways.

Join the next walk to experience the benefits of intentional time in nature! These will be slow-paced and mostly silent nature walks. No experience is necessary and all are welcome. Check our Facebook page for a list of dates and keep an eye out for event invites. We will walk rain or shine but will cancel in the event of lightning or icy roads.

Marott Woods enthusiast Miriam had to show us how much she’s grown!
