Introductory Bird Hike with Ben Valentine

Ben Valentine, a Friends of Marott Woods Board Member and Director of Foundation and Corporate Relations with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, led an introductory bird walk this morning.

Thanks to the Amos Butler Audubon Society for providing the Friends group with five pairs of birding binoculars to use for free events like this. These binoculars are available for anyone to use, so don’t let a lack of experience or equipment deter you from joining us next time!

We saw:

  • Baltimore Oriole

  • Cedar Waxwing

  • Indigo Bunting

  • Northern Cardinal

  • Song Sparrow

  • European Starling

  • Blue-gray Gnatcatcher

  • Red-bellied Woodpecker

  • Pileated Woodpecker

  • Downy Woodpecker

  • Northern Parula

  • Brown-Headed Cowbird

  • Red-shouldered Hawk

  • Song Sparrow

  • American Robin

  • Red-eyed Vireo

  • Swainson’s Thrush

  • Wood Duck

There are certainly many more that we missed, but we’ll keep coming back. Let us know what wildlife you find in the preserve!
